Last month, commissioners unanimously passed a resolu tion requesting the board of education to transfer the for mer Helena School building See HELENA, Page H Annual Roxboro Christmas Parade scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 17 BY TIM CHANDLER COURIER-TIMES EDITOR tchnn(ller@roxboto-courler.com The annual Roxboro Christ mas Parade, sponsored by the Roxboro Jaycees, is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 17. The event will begin at 2 p.m. The deadline for parade reg istration is Friday, Dec. 9. All units must be in place no later than noon on the day of the pa rade. The theme for this year’s Roxboro Christmas Parade is “The Angels of Christmas.” The parade will follow the traditional Main Street route that begins at the Carver Drive intersection and ends at the Gordon Street intersection. First, second and third-place awards will be given in the Amateur Division for floats. An award for the best religious theme will also be given. Float judging will take place at 12:30 p.m. on the day of the parade. Bryan Westmoreland and Robby Jones are co-chairing this year’s parade. Parade entry application forms can be picked up from Westmoreland at Wesgate Properties at 163 Semora Rd. or Jones at Walker Insurance Agency at 801N. Madison Blvd. Parade entries can also be ob tained via e-mail by sending requests to roxborochristmas- parade@hotmail.com. The parade will again fea ture a Professional Float Divi sion. Local businesses can rent floats for appearances in the parade for a rental fee of $475 per unit. The fee for business vehicles in the parade is $150. The entry fee for amateur floats, walking units, antique vehicles and other miscella neous entries is $10. No entry fee will be charged for march ing bands or emergency vehi cles. Peek-A-Boo, the eamera reeorded you Undercover drug probe nets 40 arrests as of Friday BY TIM CHANDLER COURIER-TIMES EDITOR tchnn(ller@roxboto-courier.tom “If you’re dealing drugs in Per son County, you may be next.” Those words of caution were uttered by Person County Sher iff Dewey Jones Friday morning as he discussed “Operation Peek- A-Boo,” a five-month undercover investigation that neared culmi nation this week with the arrests of 40 people. As of Friday afternoon, sher iff’s officials were still seeking others in connection with the probe, which began in May and utilized video and audio equip ment to help document illegal drug activity “We have always taken a very serious stance on drugs in Person County,” Jones said. “It’s been proven that the majority of all crimes are linked to drugs. Nearly all of your break-ins stem around Suspect photos, arrest information on pageA12 some sort of addiction to illegal drugs.” Jones said Operation Peek-A- Boo was successful thanks to the work of his officers, along with aid from local, state and federal authorities.
